DESIGNWORKS SUMMER ACADEMY

Discover your passion for design at Ball State University’s Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning’s DesignWorks Summer Academy. A two-week residential-experience for high school students eager to explore professional careers in the design field in Summer 2025 – July 6 – 18, 2025.

During the academy, you will immerse yourself in the diverse design disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. You will have the unique opportunity to collaborate closely with experienced faculty and current college students who are passionate about guiding you through the fundamentals of structural and environmental design. Engage in exciting design projects that will push your creative problem-solving skills to new heights.

Each day brings a fresh adventure. You will find yourself in a dynamic studio environment, visiting inspiring project sites, sketching throughout campus, and diving into hands-on projects. Most of your time will be spent learning essential design principles in the studio, where conversation and exploration are encouraged. This is your chance to work diligently, discover new perspectives, and enjoy a fun-filled learning journey.

Advantages:

  • Three (3) credit hours of a program elective course will be waived, if the student decides to enroll at Ball State University for their undergraduate degree
  • Many design-based college programs request the submission of a graphic portfolio. The academy will provide projects for participants to include in their application portfolios.
  • Participants will gain knowledge of the design thinking process used in the professions of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning.
